Gallery Poulsen was founded by Morten Poulsen in 2003 and currently represents more than 25 international emerging, mid-career, and established artists, primarily belonging to the younger generation. Our program focuses on a disciplined figurative approach in a variety of media including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, and printmaking.
In 2010, Gallery Poulsen moved to the Meatpacking District of Copenhagen, and in March of 2017 took over an abandoned slaughterhouse by the cobblestone streets of the oldest part of the district, which houses museum-quality exhibitions in an international atmosphere.
Gallery Poulsen’s mission, to provide contemplative space for the most adventurous art audience is reflected in the 8-10 solo and group shows we present annually. Through intricate hyperrealist and figurative compositions, these exhibitions investigate the liminal realms between reality and fiction in ways that rethink traditional notions of painting, sculpture, and drawing. Drawing from those very same traditions, Poulsen’s artists harness a vast array of skills in their pursuit of new storytelling languages to represent the complex forces that make up contemporary life.
While based in Copenhagen, Gallery Poulsen operates within an international context, working closely with artists and collectors across Europe, the United States, and beyond. Over the years, we have participated in leading international art fairs such as Volta New York and Basel, Art Miami, and the Seattle Art Fair, contributing to the gallery’s global network and long-standing presence within the contemporary art field. Today, the gallery continues to develop its program from Copenhagen, with a sustained focus on presenting ambitious, contemporary figurative practices.
