Pulse New York was through the roof - again!

The thunderstorm of succes we experienced last year at Pulse New York left us completely high on vibrant energy and with an inexhaustible thirst for more. We set the bar high and this year built up an even greater appetite to take New York by storm – and we absolutely did!

Ready for an intense week in breakneck work speed, we were prepared to overflow the crowd with a line-up of pure masterpieces. Gallery Poulsen always strive to show the crème de la crème of contemporary art, and with a dream team of Christian Rex van Minnen, Jean-Pierre Roy, John Jacobsmeyer, Mu Pan, Nicola Verlato and William Powhida, our selection for Pulse was nothing short of that.

To feed the spark we lit last year, we kicked off the week with a special preview event, giving an exclusive view of entirely new works, fresh off the hands of the artists. Art collectors from all over the world gathered in Jean-Pierre Roy’s studio to view and get a hold of the amazing new works, while enjoying a cold Danish Carlsberg.

The following preview dinner offered additionally newly created works by the overall artist team of Gallery Poulsen as well as a tasty bite of Denmark. To mark the special bond we have formed with New York, Danish top chef Morten Lykke Andersen created culinary art on a plate, leaving both the sight and taste buds fulfilled. With 45 international guests by the table, some of who represents large collections worldwide, we were in tremendously good company and the art works in safe hands.

We opened Pulse Art Fair with an explosion of masterpieces. Each of our six artists had created completely new works, directly from their studios and into the booth at Pulse - each more exuberant than the other, all beaming with intense colors and figurative narratives. Showing works of such calibre in the most central booth of the fair in the alluring scent of fresh paint, attracting a large crowd was inevitable.

Each in their own distinct style; Christian Rex van Minnen’s incredible classic technique, Nicola Verlato’s elaborate mythical figures, William Powhida’s word equilibrism and Jean-Pierre Roy’s mesmerizing sci-fi universe, created nothing short of a spectacle! It is no wonder they drew in numerous collectors, curators and lovers of the art. Thus, several of our artists now find themselves represented in exclusive art collections all over the world.

For Mu Pan and John Jacobsmeyer, Pulse 2016 was a first time experience, but what a debut! With Mu Pan’s incredible sense of intense detailing and Jacobsmeyer’s impressive layering of motives, they were bound to receive a warm welcome.

Yet again, Pulse New York proved to be the perfect setting to make our art talents shine.

 John Jacobsmeyer: “Knotty Children”

Installation view 1.jpg

On February 26th we had the pleasure of presenting the solo show "Knotty Children" by Brooklyn based artist John Jacobsmeyer.

The exhibition shows thirteen square oil paintings, each of which underlines Jacobsmeyer's references to the fairytales of the Brothers Grimm merged in his fascination of the virtual world. He uses this exact format to give the viewer a unique perspective imitating a first-person-shooter (FPS) from video games, or from the scrutinizing gaze of the surveillance camera.

Don’t miss the chance to see this excellent show – it runs thru April 2nd!

Jean-Pierre Roy: "Tale of a Black City" 2010, oil on canvas, 183 x 414 cm, 72 x 163

Gallery Poulsen is building up arms and taking action towards conquering Dr. Holms Hotel in Geilo, Norway during Easter, with a delegation of international heroes.
The exhibition title "The Heroes of Telemark" is a direct reference to the British war film of the same title from the 1965. Similarly to the two leads of the film, Kirk Douglas and Richard Harris, Gallery Poulsen will travel to Dr. Holms Hotel with a carefully planned mission. Poulsen's heroes are set to attack with a visual bombardment of powerful, beautiful and captivating works that can compare with the high standard of Dr. Holms Hotel as well as the heights of Geilo’s magnificent mountain scenery.

With Jean-Pierre Roy’s terrifying apocalyptic scenes, Aaron Johnson’s grotesque, patriarchal cowboys and Nicola Verlato’s fabled murder scene among the mission's heroes, the visitors of Geilo are guaranteed an extraordinary visual experience.

Spring time in Gallery Poulsen

Fresh off the Easter holiday, we will begin preparations for our upcoming April exhibition with Danish photographer Stig Stasig. Known for his ability to tranform pure nature into colorful and idea-generating images, Stasig will be showing mezmerizing patterns, where both rocks and water form are steeped in solitude, silence and dreams.
We look forward to welcoming you into a magical world, where big thoughts and good ideas can easily grow.
