JACOB DAHLSTRUP
Lives and works in Mols, Denmark
Jacob Dahlstrup’s paintings are created through a layered, classical approach, combining traditional underpainting with translucent brushwork. Working with a restrained palette inspired by Nordic painters such as Anders Zorn, he focuses on subtle variations in temperature, light, and contrast rather than vivid colour.
The human figure is a recurring presence in his work—not as a portrait or a specific character, but as a representation of a state of being. His paintings explore themes of balance, transformation, uncertainty, and transition, often reflecting both personal experiences and broader human conditions. Influenced by travel, life changes, and a continuous search for meaning, Dahlstrup creates images that evoke a sense of exploration, as if moving through a dreamlike landscape in search of connection or orientation.
Rather than telling fixed stories, his works remain open-ended, inviting viewers to enter their own interpretations. Through recurring motifs of structures, signals, and connections, his paintings explore the relationships between people, nature, memory, and change—offering spaces for reflection rather than answers.
